May 1, 2015 — the day we launched our firm — is one I’ll never forget. After a long tax season negotiating our exit from the previous firm, building a new one from scratch, and still serving our clients, the big day arrived. It was a perfect spring Friday, and we gave the team the day off so Jared and I could focus on what was ahead.
The energy was electric. Paperwork signed, clients notified, branding underway — the dream was becoming reality. That’s when the call came in.
Our largest client — a dangerously big piece of our revenue — had concerns. The air left the room. We were officially on our own now. No more safety net. But not entirely — we had a fired-up team behind us. I talked the client down, asked for their trust, and they gave it. We lived to fight another day.
Entrepreneurship is a wild ride — thrilling and terrifying, often on the same day. Be intentional. Work with great people. Do great work. Do that long enough, and one day you’ll look up and realize you’ve built something worth celebrating.
Until next time,
Bill
